Change is inevitable. Change is good. The previous project
lasted 18 wonderful months, but it's time to move on. There are a lot of reasons, not the
least of which is a desire to do something different. The biggest flaw in the old site
was the impossibility of mixing helpware with the elusive dollar. The two are mutually
exclusive. It detracted from the ability to be creative. Gone will be all the affiliate
crap and promotional extravaganza. In its place will be more interactivity with you,
hopefully more fun and entertainment. I need to go back to web school, if you will. Haven't
really read any new web building books or otherwise flooded the noggin since Fall
1998. I want to improve my design skills, so I'll be experimenting with new looks over
the coming months. Call this one the
Glassdog look, kinda.
I don't presume to have even an ounce of the talent that Lance Arthur possesses,
but I like his simplicity. The new IB Community also
has another completely different look and feel. So you'll see a lot of inconsistency as
I play around with what works and what doesn't. Family and friends have been neglected too much
lately. The task of maintaining the old site had become daunting. I will keep the
old content around for those who still want to live and
learn, but will be focusing content updates on the new areas and activities. The previous projects that you, and I, enjoyed most
will be merged in as I restructure the site. Things like the
interviews with web developers,
and the periodic look at future technologies, and the
ever-popular IB Presents web awards, though it too will most
likely inherit a new concept. Mostly I'm going on a journey of self-discovery.
Can't call it a mid-life crisis, I've already had that. Many
friends and inspirations have helped me come to this turning point. It is time
to look forward, not back, to explore the original vision of the Internet. With
your help, we can find it together. |
